Applications open for membership to the PSI’s Disciplinary Committees — deadline approaching

Applications are now open for membership to the PSI’s Disciplinary Committees for Chairs/Acting Chairs and for Registered Pharmacists who are Pharmacy Owners. As part of its role to protect the public, the PSI is responsible for handling complaints about registered pharmacists and pharmacies. The complaints process is set out in legislation in Part 6 of the Pharmacy Act 2007. Complaints are considered and inquiries heard before statutory Disciplinary Committees, comprising of a lay majority of non-pharmacists, as well as pharmacists. The PSI has three statutory Disciplinary Committees.?  

The PSI is seeking expressions of interest for appointments for the following roles on its Disciplinary Committees. Details for each role should be read in the information booklets provided. These indicate responsibilities of the roles, and time commitment required.  

  1. Chairs/Acting Chairs for the three Disciplinary Committees. This role is open to both pharmacists and non-pharmacists.
  1. Registered pharmacists who are pharmacy owners to sit as members on the three Disciplinary Committees. This includes pharmacists who are directors or shareholders of a corporate body which operates a pharmacy business.

If there is greater interest than vacancies at this time, shortlisted candidates will be placed on a panel, from which vacancies on the Disciplinary Committees will be filled, as and when they arise.
