DoH online survey to assess safe sales of paracetamol

By Irish Pharmacist - 04th Jun 2024

paracetamol

The Department of Health (DoH) has launched an online survey for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, counter staff and retail outlets where paracetamol is sold to evaluate the level of knowledge of the potential issues to be aware of when selling paracetamol.

Questions include whether staff can identify paracetamol-containing products, whether they are aware that there is a maximum sales quantity, and whether they have encountered customers trying to buy amounts of paracetamol that is beyond that limit.

The anonymised survey also contains some fields where participants can type their own observations.

Questions also investigate whether staff have had training on the sales of paracetamol, what format this training took, and invites participants for input on the training materials recently disseminated to the pharmacy sector, such as the ‘Safe Sales of Paracetamol in Pharmacy Settings: Self-Harm and Suicide Prevention’ poster.

Respondents are also asked whether they are aware of the Working Group that aims to prevent intentional drug overdoses involving paracetamol.

The survey, which takes approximately 15 minutes, can be accessed at https://ucc.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_232LDelULhyY0ia.
