The Health Service Executive (HSE) Health App now has over 125,000 people registered and more than 210,000 downloads since its launch.
The Department of Health is encouraging more people to sign up, highlighting the app’s role in giving patients greater access to their own health information and the exciting new features introduced in Version 4, released in November.
The latest update brings significant enhancements, including:
- Showing patients the hospital waiting lists they are on for day case and inpatient care, so patients no longer need letters or phone calls to confirm their status.
Patients will receive a notification when an appointment is made.
- Access to information on GP general referrals, which account for 85 per cent of referrals, with specialist referrals coming mid-way through 2026.
- Expanded health data for patients on the Structured Chronic Disease Management Programme, including diagnosis and vital measurements.
HSE Chief Technology and Transformation Officer Damien McCallion said: “The addition of waiting list information and GP referral features have enabled patients to get more up-to-date information about their patient journey.
“We are transforming and improving healthcare for people in Ireland through Digital for Care, with the app being one element of a wide range of innovative digital initiatives.”
Upcoming releases will include tools to help users take up physical activity, access scans and test results directly through the app, and gain access to more of their own health data with access to more hospital appointments and community appointments.
Looking ahead, future updates will enable patients to check wait times for scheduled tests or treatments, receive tailored support for managing chronic conditions, and access clear guidance before and after appointments.
