Lucy Kennedy and Benecol® run ‘what’s your number?’ cholesterol campaign for second consecutive year

By Irish Pharmacist - 02nd Nov 2023

Benecol® has relaunched its ‘What’s Your Number?’ campaign for the second consecutive year with Lucy Kennedy at the forefront as brand ambassador. The campaign aims to support heart health and raise awareness of the issue of high cholesterol which affects one in two Irish adults and, if untreated, can contribute to coronary heart disease. Benecol® ran a free cholesterol-testing day on October 17 in selected Hickey’s and AllCare pharmacies nationwide. And for those who didn’t have a participating pharmacy location nearby, free home tests are available via post. Tests are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Last year, Lucy Kennedy participated in Benecol®’s free testing day and fortunately found out that she had low levels of cholesterol, but she knows that this can change without any indication. The presenter is conscious that staying on top of her health is vital, especially when dealing with her busy work schedule and raising three children. Fellow TV personalities Glenda Gilson and Dáithí Ó Sé have also joined the campaign to help share the news far and wide.

Lucy Kennedy, Benecol®’s brand ambassador, said: “When Benecol® asked me to be the brand ambassador again this year I knew I had to do it. Looking after yourself means consistently getting check-ups. It’s not a one and done job. It might seem a bit scary getting tested, but I hope this campaign highlights the importance of regular testing. High cholesterol can affect people of all ages. Once you know your number, you can take action to improve it if the level is high. And, if it’s low, you can give yourself a pat on the back and put your mind at ease. Don’t put it on the long finger.”

Laura O’Connell, Brand Manager at Benecol® said: “We are delighted to announce the second year of our ‘What’s Your Number?’ campaign. By offering free cholesterol tests across the country, we are giving everyone a chance to find out what their cholesterol level is and to know if they need to take steps to change it.”
