Epilepsy Ireland has announced the release of a new song to increase awareness of seizure first aid and the key words of TIME, SAFE, STAY.
The song has been released for International Epilepsy Day on 9 February – an important day for the global epilepsy community to raise awareness of the condition, which affects an estimated 45,000 people in Ireland.
Since 2021, Epilepsy Ireland has been promoting the key words of TIME, SAFE, STAY as a memory aid for the public on how to correctly respond to a seizure. The new musical initiative released this year is the organisation’s latest creative output to increase the use of this important public health message amongst the Irish public.
Speaking about the launch of the new song – TIME, SAFE, STAY – Epilepsy Ireland Advocacy & Communications Manager, Paddy McGeoghegan said: “We all know how nothing quite sticks in your memory like a catchy song – and through our new musical message, we hope the wider public will not only enjoy it, but also remember it. Knowing how to respond to a seizure is a potentially life-saving intervention to know, and we would appeal to everyone to listen, share and learn more about seizure first aid this International Epilepsy Day.”
Epilepsy Ireland volunteer, Zuzanna Urbanska – a young woman living with epilepsy — stressed the importance of learning more on International Epilepsy Day:
“On three occasions, I have been seizure free for over a year. The latest streak ended in December, when I was one year and nine months seizure-free. I now find myself at the beginning – again – but I am determined to keep fighting, achieve seizure freedom again and to keep spreading awareness.
“I want the wider public to know that epilepsy is way more common than they think. There’s more than 45,000 of us living with epilepsy across the country and it is so important to know seizure first aid and those key words of TIME, SAFE, STAY. I can’t stress enough how much learning a bit more about the condition we experience can help us all on our individual journeys with it – so please do learn more.”
