HPAI conference flourishes with national and international speakers

By Pat Kelly - 06th May 2025

HPAI conference

Hospital Pharmacists Association of Ireland Annual Educational Conference, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Dublin, 4-6 April

This year’s Hospital Pharmacists Association of Ireland (HPAI) Annual Educational Conference featured a packed agenda and covered a wide variety of topics relevant to the specialty, ranging from how to beat burnout, to pregnancy and lactation care, with a range of topics in between.

The packed event saw the keynote lecture delivered by Dr Briegeen Girvin, Senior Lecturer and Independent Prescribing Lead at the School of Pharmacy at Queen’s University Belfast. Another pivotal presentation was delivered by Harpreet Chana, Founder/CEO of the Mental Wealth Academy. Originally a pharmacist by trade, Ms Chana delivered a moving presentation titled ‘How to Beat the Pharmacy Burnout: Solution Through Prevention’.

The conference also featured a number of high-quality poster presentations and workshops to help keep attendees up-to-date on the latest research.

The oral presentations were of an equally high standard and featured topics such as preparing subcutaneous monoclonal antibodies, periconceptual folic acid supplementation in women with epilepsy taking anti-seizure medications, and complexity assessments tools for pharmacy clinical trial set-up. The presentations also featured a look at doctors’, nurses’ and midwives’ views of hospital pharmacist prescribing.

Special interest groups covered aspects of aseptics and mental health, and the annual conference dinner provided attendees further opportunities for networking and professional collaboration.
