Applications for the fifth formal Irish Institue of Pharmacy (IIOP) Mentoring Programme are open until 12 May 2024.
Why mentoring? ?
Mentoring is a key component of professional development and personal growth. It is a supportive, nurturing relationship; a sounding board that enables someone through a transition in learning. The relationship may cover a variety of contexts and when successful, it benefits all.
Can anyone apply?
Designed to suit the life of a busy pharmacist this programme is tailored for pharmacists working in all practice areas. A structure is provided which is flexible and personalised to each mentoring pair.
Pharmacists from all sectors and all career stages can apply to join the current Mentoring programme. This is an opportunity to have access to your own personal mentor who is there to support you in your development.
You can apply to be a Mentee at this link: https://iiop.ie/content/iiop-mentoring-programme-application-form-2024-mentee.
The programme is also a great opportunity for pharmacists who have attended the IIOP Mentoring Skills Workshops to put their skills into practice in an evidence-based, formal yet flexible programme.
Applications are also open to all pharmacists who have completed the IIOP Mentorship Skills Training, and now wish to mentor in practice.
To develop your mentoring skills further, apply to be a mentor at this link: https://iiop.ie/content/iiop-mentoring-programme-application-form-2024-mentor.
The programme runs between July and December 2024. We introduce the mentoring pairs in June when onboarding training (one evening online) takes place for mentors and mentees.
This allows you to get set up for success so you can start the mentoring programme formally in July. Previous participating pairs reported meeting, on average, for 60 minutes every three-to-four weeks, outside of work, with additional time spent on reflection and preparation. Pharmacists who have been involved previously said that they looked forward to the sessions and mentoring gave them energy.
To date more than 100 pharmacists have participated in the IIOP Mentoring Programme and 100 per cent said it met or exceeded their expectations.
