The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) has released an updated version of its knowledge and skills reference guide for professional development in vaccination services, reinforcing the essential role of pharmacists in global immunisation efforts. This update reflects the evolving challenges in healthcare, including vaccine hesitancy, the spread of misinformation, and evolving regulatory frameworks, underscoring the need to continually support pharmacists in delivering vaccination services.

Pharmacists play a pivotal role in immunisation, as highlighted in an infographic within the reference guide, which illustrates their contributions — from educating patients and administering vaccines, to managing supply chains.

As vaccine technology advances and the scope of pharmacy practice expands, this guide provides a comprehensive framework for pharmacists to develop the skills and knowledge needed to enhance vaccination services, said the FIP.

Aligned with the FIP Global Competency Framework and the FIP Global Advanced Development Framework, the guide serves as a keyresource for pharmacists at all stages
of professional development, pharmacy educators and academics developing undergraduate vaccination courses or programmes, and continuing professional development (CPD) providers designing professional development programmes on vaccination.

“Pharmacists are pivotal in achieving global immunisation goals. This updated guide ensures that pharmacists are well- equipped to meet the evolving demands of vaccination services and contribute
to stronger public health systems,” said Dr Dalia Bajis, FIP Head of Programmes and Provision.
